Our Curriculum

At the Glen Cove Child Day Care Center, it is our firm belief that children learn the best when they are learning through play. To achieve this goal, our center uses the Creative Curriculum, where students can explore, engage, and educate themselves through hands on learning and activities. Through the Creative Curriculum, teachers can create and cater lessons to the interest of the child. This includes the use of interest areas such as, blocks, dramatic play, discovery, sand and water play, toys and games, computers, art, library, music and movement, and cooking. Teachers determine what the theme will be for their weekly/monthly lessons and create fun and educational activities that engage students on academic and intellectual level. Our curriculum also includes the High Five Mathematize Program, a hands-on exploration of math and math concepts, “Wow Experiences”, activities that students may not experience in everyday life, and the Healthy Hearts Program, where students are engaged in health, safety, and movement activities to educate students on the importance of exercising and eating healthy.

To measure our students progress, our center uses the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) through Child Plus. Here, our

teachers can monitor each individual child’s progress, focus on areas where students may be struggling, and cater their lessons to reflect the needs of

their students. The DRDP also allows for open parent communication so that both parents and teachers can collaborate on strategies to help children grow. Teachers also conduct a developmental screening within the first 45 days of the school year with the use of the Developmental Assessment of Young Children (DAYC-2). By using this process, teachers can learn about the developmental growth of each child when they first enter our Head Start and Day Care programs. This allows teachers to determine if any student is eligible for additional services to further assist them in their educational career. All these tools combined help the Glen Cove Child Day Care Center prepare its students for their next adventure in the world of education!
